As far as the seasons go, spring is kind to us as it comes with a couple of bank holiday weekends. It can be really refreshing to have an extra day off work to finally get round to doing some of those household jobs that there simply doesn’t seem enough hours for the rest of the time. In many cases you need to make a stop off at a DIY or hardware store before you actually take on the challenges around your home, which can be a big ask on a two-day weekend.
It is highly likely that you will have jobs both inside and outside your home that are waiting to be tackled, but it might be easier to manage your workload if you split the jobs between two bank holiday weekends. So perhaps you could look at the interior of your home first, and look at the exterior at a later date. If this plan seems like a good one to you, here are just a few of the areas you may want to take into consideration…
De-Clutter Your Living Space
First things first – grab your recycling bins and get to work. It is a lot easier to organised and decorate when you actually have space to do it in. That is why you should aim to de-clutter your home, recycling all of those bits of paper you no longer need. It is amazing how many newspapers, magazines, bills and flyers can build up through the winter months, so go on a hunt to track all of them down. Remember to shred any sensitive documents such as those that include financial information.
Give Your Rooms A Quick Makeover
Once you have ample space to move about in, you may want to spruce up how your rooms look. A lick of paint can go a long way, but you could also look at wallpaper or simple soft furnishings too. Pinterest is a good place to look online for a bit of inspiration, but your local DIY store may have all the answers for you too.
Clean Out Your Kitchen Cupboards
Another area you may want to look at is your kitchen. You probably already clean your counters and floor frequently, but do your efforts extend to the kitchen cupboards? Many people are guilty of leaving food in their cupboards well beyond the ‘use by’ dates, so it could be an opportunity to see if you are an offender too. Combine this task with cleaning the cupboards to make them fresher for your food in the future.
Get Rid Of All The Cobwebs
Now turn your attention to the ceilings of each of your rooms; it is highly likely that you will find a few cobwebs. Spiders love to come indoors during the autumn and winter months, but you may want to reclaim your home once again now that the spring is here. Cobwebs can be easily removed with a feather duster or an extension hose on a vacuum cleaner; just take care when you are reaching for those difficult nooks and crannies.
Tick Off Those Little Tasks
Lastly, see if you can come up with a list of little tasks to accomplish. This might be applying wood treatments to your dining room table, or descaling the shower head so the water runs with much more power. You may well find that family life suddenly becomes much more enjoyable when these jobs are finally taken care of!
